The Best Movies for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is perfect for spending some time at home (away from the hastiness of city-life) in the company of family, friends and loved ones. Flâneurs need to rest too…And just as you, the weekly GOINGS ON  are on vacation until the week of January 1st!

Instead, a list of our favourite films to watch during the holidays! Get yourself a warm hot cocoa, gather around with loved ones, and get into the Christmas spirit with these holiday flicks!

The Nightmare Before Christmas
What would Christmas be without Jack and Halloween-town? This flick unites Halloween and Christmas in a musically induced adventure. Touching, dazzling, strange and wonderful! It’s a must-see.
In here they’ve got a little tree, how queer
And who would ever think
And why? They’re covering it with tiny little things

They’ve got electric lights on strings
And there’s a smile on everyone
So, now, correct me if I’m wrong
This looks like fun!!!
Home Alone II

Merry Christmas, you filthy animal. I bet you’re used to seeing Home Alone on all the “Best Christmas Movie” lists out there…We suggest watching the second one instead (*so original*). Kevin, yet again, gets into mischief, but this time in New York. And what’s more festive than New York in December? President Trump makes a small appearance in the movie as well.

Love Actually

The Holiday season is made for sappy love films, guilty pleasure romantic comedies and seeing Hugh Grant on screen. Don’t miss out this year!

Technically not a Christmas movie per se, but we love watching it during this time of the year. It is undeniable, Paddington is the cutest bear that ever lived! The film is adorable, charming, visually appealing and sweet.

Bridget Jones's Diary

To watch partly for the iconic soundtrack, and partly for Darcy’s reindeer jumper. Despite all of it, we love Bridget just as she is.

The Polar Express

The magic and wonder of Christmas are perfectly illustrated in this Zemeckis film. A beautiful train, sweet friendships, and an animated Tom Hanks…What more could we ask for?

8 Femmes

A Christmas murder-mystery musical starring the most talented French women. The dark comedy is based on a play by Robert Thomas and blends many genres.

8 femmes
Virginie Ledoyen (Suzon)

Take some time off at home and relax with these flicks! We’ll return next week with the most interesting events in Montreal. Happy holidays!
